Academic Requirements

Medical, dental, and other health professional programs do not require students to have a specific major, but instead require specific pre-requisite courses in order to apply. We have a number of science-related programs (Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Biophysics, Translational Biomedical Sciences, etc.) that require these science courses as part of the major.

Keep in mind that you don't have to be science major to apply to a health professional program! As long as you've completed the necessary coursework. Students are encouraged to explore majors that they will enjoy and that will provide them with the best chance for academic success. Rowan majors in Philosophy, Biomedical Engineering, English, and Psychology and have been accepted to medical, dental and other health professional schools.

The following courses will provide you with a strong academic framework to satisfy the minimum requirements for a number of health profession programs, including medicine and dentistry. Keep in mind that individual institutions may have specific courses they may or may not require for their professional program. Please check with the health professions advisor and your desired program when planning your course schedule.
